My wife sent me this today - classic! Going to be a doosy of a storm!
...TRAVEL IMPACTS FOR THE SIERRA... * DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL IN THE
SIERRA ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. * ATTEMPTING TO TRAVEL IN THE SIERRA
WILL PUT YOUR LIFE AT RISK! MOST SIERRA ROADS WILL BE CLOSED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME DURING THIS STORM DUE TO THE DANGEROUS BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS WILL GENERATE WHITEOUT CONDITIONS WITH ZERO VISIBILITY WHICH WILL MAKE TRAVEL IMPOSSIBLE.
SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO 6 INCHES PER HOUR WILL OCCUR FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING. DURING THE STRONGEST PORTION OF THE STORM ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING...SNOWFALL RATES OVER THE MOUNTAIN PASSES WILL EXCEED 6 INCHES PER HOUR. THESE VERY HIGH SNOWFALL RATES WILL MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ROAD CREWS AND EMERGENCY PERSONNEL TO KEEP ROADS PASSABLE AND TO ASSIST STRANDED VEHICLES. IF YOU DO ATTEMPT TRAVEL IN THE SIERRA YOUR CHANCES OF BEING STRANDED FOR MORE THAN A FEW HOURS IS VERY HIGH. DELAY ALL TRAVEL PLANS IN THE SIERRA UNTIL AFTER THE STORM PASSES AND ROAD CONDITIONS IMPROVE LATE THIS WEEKEND OR EARLY NEXT WEEK.
ALTERNATE ROUTES WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE...AS DANGEROUS BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WILL AFFECT ALL ROADS CROSSING THE SIERRA FROM LASSEN COUNTY SOUTHWARD TO MONO COUNTY.

Sarah and I want to see No Country for Old Men tonight, the Coen Brothers newest film. All in all, I thought that the film was fantastic! I am pretty sure that this will be considered for an Academy Award - especially for Best Picture. Great photography, great script, diverse characters, awesome actors, and most importantly, a fantastic story.
I will say that the film was a little on the violent side (bones sticking out of skin, heads blown off, etc.) so if you aren't into violent films, hold off.
Lastly, the Coen Brothers always seem to produce films with deep symbolism. O Brother Where Art Thou was a spin on the Odyssey. Not quite sure how they approached this one, but I will say that it seemed to be chalk full of Biblical Symbolism.
Anyway, I watched the "Return to House on Haunted Hill" the other night (Sarah fell asleep in the first 5 mins) and it had all of the characteristics of a contemporary horror film:
- The blond bimbo who decides to go off one her own and ends up meeting a bloody & gory fate
- The token Black guy who barely escapes many near death experiences and the audience is left wondering if her is going to make it through the whole film - Taye Diggs
- The star before she was a star (and is stuck doing horror - but hey, it's either horror or porn!) - Ali Larter
- The star who wakes up one morning and says "You know what, I am going to do a horror movie" - Geoffrey Rush
Anyway, this movie was terrible. The plot didn't make any sense, it wasn't that scary, and there wasn't a clear antagonist. Sometimes it was a ghost, sometimes a weird alien-like creature that could take on different forms, and sometimes it was Ruch's wife (the hot X-men chick). What kills me though is that it could have been terrifying because the setting was great - an old mental ward! I have decided that I am going to write a horror screenplay one day and avoid all of the lame Hollywood qualities that are killing the genre.
Next review - Dead Silence (yes, I unfortunately watched this one as well...)
So I went to my first musical the other night in years! My mom gave Sarah and me tickets to Jersey Boys for my birthday last May, and we finally found time to user them!
The evening was very much a Rodrigues affair. Sarah, Gary, Ladonna, Paul and I headed out to the Curran Theater on Geary and Taylor to attend the evening show. Now I am not a huge fan of musicals, but Jersey Boys was absolutely fantastic! The musical tells the story of the Four Seasons and how they rose to prominence during the 1960s. The acting was great and over 40 songs were sung during the show. The actor who played Frankie Valli had an incredible falsetto voice and really did a great job to make the experience seem authentic. Additionally, the sets were great and the producer/director did a great job using multimedia during the show.
I haven't listened to a ton of the Four Seasons' music, and I was surprised to see how many hits they actually had.
Some of their top songs include:
- Walk Like a Man
- Big Girls Don't Cry
- Sherry
- Stay
- December, 1963 (Oh What A Night)
Anyway, I highly recommend anyone living in the SF Bay Area to attend Jersey Boys before the show leaves town! I have been in a good mood ever since seeing it.
Sarah and I wasted two quality hours the other day to watch Snakes on a Plane. Yes, I am not making this up. The movie was pretty lame, but there were some funny scenes. Moreover, I did like the director's audacity. It's not too often that you see a kid, a grandmother, boobs, penises, eyeballs, tongues, and anything else you can think of bitten by a snake. Additionally, there was one snake that literally had like 47 teeth in his mouth - what a joke. Anyway, I just wanted to give a shot out to my main man Samuel L. Jackson because he took the role with out reading the script. I actually searched for his reasoning and found this quote:
“All movies aren’t fun; some are hard work...You try to do
something and convey a set of emotions that have to do with some real life kind
of stuff. That’s a popcorn movie. We know what it is. I don’t have to go in and
worry about my motivations. F**king snakes all over the plane. That’s scary.
‘Let’s go! Scream. Yell. Let’s look dire. Oh my god, somebody got bit (gasps).
Oh snakes gonna bite me!’”
Ever since we decided to get Comcast on Demand, we have been privy to all of these random movies. I even watched the Hills Have Eyes! That one was a doosy...
I was a bit disappointed at the ending personally. it was good thought... I dunno, I think I need to... read more
